THEY FORCED HER TO MARRY A POOR MAN BECAUSE SHE WAS ADOPTED

   Episode 2✅

But no matter how hard she worked, no matter how perfect she tried to be, she couldn’t seem to earn the love she so desperately craved.By the time she was 12, Ruth’s world had shrunk.

She had no friends, no one to confide in. She was just a quiet, obedient child who cleaned the house and went unnoticed.

The girl who had once called them "Mum" and "Dad" was now silent and withdrawn. And in the silence of her heart, she began to wonder if she would ever be truly loved.

Her dreams of a family, a place where she could belong, had all but disappeared. All that was left was a hollow shell of the girl who had once been full of hope, now living in the shadows of a family that had forgotten she existed.

As soon as Ruth turned 18, her younger sister Mara, the child Mrs. Ezeh had given birth to, was 12. Ruth had long accepted that her place in the family was one of invisibility and service, but something unimaginable happened.

Mrs. Ezeh was pregnant again, after 12 long years. Ruth could hardly believe it, but sure enough, after months of waiting, Mrs. Ezeh gave birth to a baby boy. Ruth, now an adult in the house, watched as the family’s dynamics shifted once more, but this time, it wasn’t the same.

Ruth had braced herself for what she had experienced years ago—the shift in attention, the preferential treatment, the overwhelming love and care that would be lavished on this new child.

She had watched as Mara, just a child, had been given everything she had longed for—attention, affection, and the comfort of knowing she belonged. Ruth couldn’t help but wonder if history would repeat itself.

But to her astonishment, it didn’t.

Instead of the tension and neglect she had endured, Ruth saw something entirely different. Mrs. Ezeh didn’t treat Mara with the same distant coldness that Ruth had experienced.

In fact, Mara was spoiled with affection, her every need tended to, and her every whim fulfilled. Mrs. Ezeh smiled at her constantly, her eyes soft with love. There was no harshness, no scolding, no distance between them.

And when the baby boy arrived, Ruth watched with confusion and pain as Mrs. Ezeh showered him with love, just as she had done for Mara. This time, the focus was on him too—his needs were met, and his cries were soothed without delay.

Ruth couldn’t help but feel like an outsider, a witness to something that felt deeply unjust. She had spent years watching her adoptive parents pour out their love onto Mara, and now this new baby, while she had worked tirelessly, silently, to gain even a fraction of that affection.

But the love and attention she had once sought, now felt forever out of reach. It was as if Ruth’s years of sacrifice, of doing everything they asked, meant nothing. All the years of laboring as their maid, doing everything to keep the house running smoothly, had amounted to nothing in the end.

She wasn’t their daughter in their eyes. She was just another member of the background—a servant, a shadow.

As she looked at Mara and the baby, Ruth realized that she was never going to be treated the same. She was always going to be the outsider, the one who had been brought in and forgotten. Ruth couldn’t hold back the deep ache in her chest. The love she had once longed for had been given to others, never to her.

But despite the pain, she also felt a new resolve forming within her. This time, it wasn’t about trying to earn a place that had never been hers. It wasn’t about begging for affection that would never come. Ruth realized, maybe for the first time, that she had to find her own worth outside of this family.

She no longer wanted to be part of the cycle of unspoken rejection. She had grown too old to wait for love that would never come.

It was time to start living for herself, to make her own choices, and to find her own happiness—away from the house that had never truly been her home.

One fateful evening, Ruth was called. She wiped her hands on her apron and stepped out of the kitchen, her feet heavy as she walked into the living room. Her gaze immediately settled on a man sitting awkwardly on the couch
